A new work on the economic history of Catalonia
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper discuss collective work: Catalan Vidal, Jordi (ed.) (2023). Crises and Transformation in the Mediterranean World. Lessons from Catalonia. The history of Catalan society is reviewed in its relationship with the Mediterranean area. The role of trade is highlighted as well as the changes in historiography regarding its role in economic development. The endogenous determinations of formation and evolution of feudal society are also analyzed. The importance of the classics, Adam Smith and Karl Marx, for the analysis of pre-capitalist societies is highlighted. The studies in this book reveal the historical roots of the demand for autonomy for Catalonia and also the uniqueness of its historiography.
