Los medievalistas ingleses y la historia económica

Resumen
Se analiza el medievalismo inglés de tema económico desde la segunda posguerra a hoy. Se reseñan sus orígenes después de 1945. También sus tesis y su relación con la economía clásica, con el contexto político y con los micromedios en que se desarrolló. En esa etapa el estudio estuvo centrado en los ciclos de demografía y agricultura por un lado, y en las relaciones y luchas de clases por otro. Sobresalieron entonces Dobb, Postan y Hilton. A partir de la década de 1990, con Epstein y Britnell, pasa a primer plano el factor mercado, y se abandonan los temas y las explicaciones que prevalecían hasta entonces, incluidos los aportes de la antropología económica. Este revisionismo incluye el desarrollo desigual, descartado como problema por Bartlett. Los análisis inspirados en Malthus, Ricardo y Marx fueron reemplazados por otros inspirados en el Nuevo Institucionalismo Económico y en la ortodoxia neoclásica. Se plantea la relación de este enfoque con autores como Robert Brenner. Se toma como un eje del examen la obra de Wickham, el medievalista marxista más influyente de este siglo. De manera secundaria, se reseña la evolución del medievalismo francés.
