Abstract

Josep Salrach wrote a work about scarcity crisis along history. The vision is broad, both in a chronological and in a geographical dimension. This allows comparing the pre-capitalist crisis with those occurred in contemporary societies. The author analyses these economic and demographic declines in connection with each system. Along with the mechanisms which unleashed the hunger (from the domestic economy logic to the state policies), he reviews the strategies which were used in order to get over the disaster. In this article the main points of the book are highlighted and placed in their historiographical context
