Landowners, town hall and “corraleros”. The access to the supplies market of meat based on the case of two “estancias” of the south of Buenos Aires (1785-1809)
Main Article Content
Abstract
Some historical traditions pointed out that the colonial supplies market of Buenos Aires was controlled by a few landowners and the town hall. Consequently, the fixing of prices should benefit big landowners to the detriment of the population. However, the research of one “estancia” of Buenos Aires reveals that even big landowners were subordinated to a regulated market where the town hall and the “corraleros” were the main actors in value’s transferences struggles.
